Key Information
Why are we doing this?
When an email is sent to someone, the receiving persons email server verifies that the person sending the email is legitimate and allowed to send from the originating domain.
For example, if you worked for Amazon and your email was John@amazon.com, and you sent an email to Jane@gmail.com, Gmail in this case, would make sure that the email originated from amazon.com's servers, or a server that is allowed to send on its behalf.
If a scammer wanted to trick you into thinking you were receiving an email from john@amazon.com, historically it's been trivial to “spoof” that address. All they would do is send it from their own server, and set the from address to john@amazon.com, and it would appear in Jane@gmail.com's inbox looking like it came from John@amazon.com.
To combat this, several security measures have been implemented across the web so that email providers can validate that emails are originating from trusted places using DNS records.
How this affects you
As a user of Midas Pro, if your email domain within Pro is not controlled by MAB (@mab.org.uk), we have historically sent an email on your behalf using basic impersonation methods.
As previously mentioned, due to scammers exploiting this method, this is no longer viable, so your emails sent from Pro may be falsely flagged as spam. As restrictions tighten online, this will become more common. This is why we are taking steps to transform the way Pro sends emails, so it can properly be authenticated. This does, however, require action on your company's part.
Requirements & Restrictions
This site will provide you with the information you need to set up your domain's DNS records. Please note the following requirements and restrictions:
- This only needs to be completed once per domain (e.g. jane@mrmortgage.com and john@mrmortgage.com count as one domain).
- You will need administrator access to your domain's DNS records.
- This is only required if you are a self branded representative/firm.
- If you use an external email provider (i.e. not controlled by you or your IT service provider, such as gmail or hotmail) as your Pro email address, this will not work and you need to contact MAB for advice going forwards.
- Once Pro switches to using this new method, if you have not completed this setup activity, emails will no longer be sent on your domain's behalf.
- Switch over date is TBC. You will be notified in advance.
